The Athletes Behind the Platform

The Prospect HQ Student Ambassador Program exists for one reason. We believe the people who understand the student-athlete experience best are student-athletes themselves. Our ambassadors are the connective tissue between our platform and the communities we serve. They shape how we show up on campus, and they bring real stories from real careers to athletes who are figuring out what comes next.

Ambassadors get hands-on experience in career development, networking, and personal branding. They build relationships with other athletes across the country who are navigating the same questions about life after sport. They also get a behind-the-scenes look at how a startup operates, which is its own kind of education.

This series is where we introduce the people doing that work. We want you to know who they are, what drives them, and what they're learning along the way.

Introducing John DeStefano

Tell us your name, school, sport, and graduation year.

John DeStefano, University of Scranton, Baseball, Class of 2027

What are your plans for the summer?

Spending time with family, training for the upcoming season, and working at the PGA Tour Superstore.

How would your teammates describe you in three words?

Energetic, Compassionate, and Reliable.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

People are often surprised to learn that I enjoy cooking. My uncle is a chef, and spending time cooking with him over the years has turned it into one of my favorite hobbies.

What was your first job ever?

Summer camp counselor.

What do you think you want to do after graduation, and how certain are you really?

I would like to pursue my master's, and I am very certain about that. After that, most likely a job in Asset and Wealth Management.

What is something about being a student-athlete people don't talk about enough?

How long the travel days are during the season, and how difficult it is to balance the academic workload during those weekends.

What is one skill from sports that translates to the real world?

Communication. Whether you're working with teammates on the field or coworkers in a professional setting, being able to communicate clearly, listen to others, and work toward a common goal is essential for success.

What made you want to become a Prospect HQ Student Ambassador?

After listening in to an info session at the University, I wanted to be involved with what Prospect HQ was creating and help other student-athletes learn more about what Prospect HQ has to offer.

What would you tell someone nervous to put themselves out there?

Growth happens when you step outside your comfort zone, and most people are far less judgmental than we imagine. Taking small chances and putting yourself out there can lead to new friendships, opportunities, and confidence.
